  1. In the Nordic, when they encountered the following cases, what would they do?
1.If you had another chance to choose, do you still want to be a Northern European?
2.Since the welfare of your country is so good, do you still want to study?
3.In Taiwan, if a child disobeyed his mother’s words, wandering along the street, the mother will blame on him and say“the police will come to catch you and put you into the prison!!”If the same thing happened, what will the elders do or say in your country?
4.What do you think about Taiwanese students (from seven to twelve grade) who have to learn every subject such as Math, Science, History, Geography...., whether they like it or not?
5.How do the elders describe to children about death and divorce?
6.What is the normal age for kids to start talking?
7.Generally speaking, when we are teaching little kids new words, we often use reduplication, for example, “che”which means car, and we will say“che che”. How about you? Are there any special methods to teach children?
8.If a child makes mistakes, what would the elders do? For instance, stealing, being late, breaking something, and lying.

  2. 1. IF YOU HAD ANOTHER CHANCE TO CHOOSE, DO YOU STILL WANT TO BE A NORTHERN EUROPEAN?

Of course there are lot of places where I could live. Mostly your own country is the best to live as Finland is the best place for me to live. In my own country I are not a foreigner. Here I can speak my language fluently and I am not ridiculed because of the defects in my speaking like living abroad. Here I am fluent in reading books, newspapers etc. In my own country the education, the culture and even shops are best equipped for for me. In my own country I have more relatives and friends than anywhere else. Even the neighboring countries are more similar to my own country like the European countries for me. Now when Finland is a member of European Union, we Finns have many nice new rights: for ex. to study or live abroad just like in Finland. We have the same currency and regulations with many other countries. We don’t need to use passport so much because of free travelling between EU. I also like this cool climate here in Finland with the real winter with snow.

    2. SINCE THE WELFARE OF YOUR COUNTRY IS SO GOOD, DO YOU STILL WANT TO STUDY?

The welfare in Finland and in most European countries is better than in other countries elsewhere. It is good especially for poor people and for people sick or old. You can get to hospitals or old people homes even when you don’t have money. But that basic living standard is not enough for most people. Free education is encouraging young people to study. Most young people in Finland are quite eager to study.

    3. IN TAIWAN, IF A CHILD DISOBEYED HIS MOTHER’S WORDS, WANDERING ALONG THE STREET, THE MOTHER WILL BLAME ON HIM AND SAY“THE POLICE WILL COME TO CATCH YOU AND PUT YOU INTO THE PRISON!!”IF THE SAME THING HAPPENED, WHAT WILL THE ELDERS DO OR SAY IN YOUR COUNTRY?

The biggest difference between European and Asian education may be the strict law here wich allows no corporal punishment. That law is the same in United States or Canada too. Very few parents use that threatening tactics in education anymore. Parents try to discuss any matters peacefully with their children. Very important is to listen what children want to say, but of course sometimes parents have to do things against the will of their children.

    4. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT TAIWANESE STUDENTS (FROM SEVEN TO TWELVE GRADE) WHO HAVE TO LEARN EVERY SUBJECT SUCH AS MATH, SCIENCE, HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY...., WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT?

In U.S.A. students seem to have more possibilities in selecting what subjects they have to study. Many those subjects here are same with Taiwanese education. In Finland students need to study also several languages and especially in Elementary School and Junior Middle School they study some practical subjects as working in the kitchen, some handicraft or so.

    5. HOW DO THE ELDERS DESCRIBE TO CHILDREN ABOUT DEATH AND DIVORCE?

Every parent has their own way to communicate with their kids. There are lot of story books which do include even these matters in their stories. The storytelling is often good tool to tell to kids about many serious matters. In Church these subjects are also discussed even in Children’s Sunday Schools. Most parents tell about the difficult subjects when their kid is asking questions about them. Then parents need to see the age level of their kid.

    6. WHAT IS THE NORMAL AGE FOR KIDS TO START TALKING?

We have many sayings which tell that if the baby starts early walking then this baby starts to speak later. Most babies here seem to start actual talking from 1 ½ year to 2 ½ year old. Some kids learn to read and write even 4 – 5 year old by themselves.

    7. GENERALLY SPEAKING, WHEN WE ARE TEACHING LITTLE KIDS NEW WORDS, WE OFTEN USE REDUPLICATION, FOR EXAMPLE, “CHE”WHICH MEANS CAR, AND WE WILL SAY“CHE CHE”. HOW ABOUT YOU? ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL METHODS TO TEACH CHILDREN?

Many parents use simple picturebooks which are planned for little kids. There is no need very eagerly to teach kids to speak. Every child is different and they learn so many things in different rhythm and their interests are different. One my friend started to play piano as 2 – 3 years old by himself without any special assistance but most kids are interested in other areas. There is usually no need to force the kid to learn something very fast. It is important mainly to speak to the child naturally using the normal language and not to use kids language which they first speak themselves.

IF A CHILD MAKES MISTAKES, WHAT WOULD THE ELDERS DO? FOR INSTANCE, STEALING, BEING LATE, BREAKING SOMETHING, AND LYING.

Usually parents discuss any matters with their kids, but no corporal punishment is allowed. In many families they use some penalties like reducing the pocket money, not allowed to do some favourite things or so for a certain time. In Finland children 1-14 years old are not legally responsible for their doings, but their parents are responsible of their wrongdoings even economically. If kid is for ex. catched stealing then police and social workers come to speak with parents. Of course these subjects are teached in School or in Sunday School too.
